- OUTDOOR AREA -
The deck is private to you - good for a slow breakfast, or a cold beer after a day on the river. Outdoor seating, garden outlook and native bush on the boundary. The landscaping around the property is stunning, and the boardwalk is lit at night so getting back after a late one at the store is easy.
- PARKING -
Free off-street parking on the property, with a spot right beside the stairs, parallel to the fence line. The boardwalk starts from there.
Guest Access:
You have the whole tiny house to yourself - the open plan living space, the bedroom, the bathroom, your own deck, and exclusive use of the sauna and cold shower. Park at the top of the driveway, take the stairs down, follow the boardwalk along and then up a short set of stairs to the door. Light switches sit at either end of the boardwalk. Make yourself at home.
The Neighborhood:
Okere Falls is not a resort - it is a real Rotorua lakes community sitting where Lake Rotoiti meets the Kaituna River, twenty five minutes north of Rotorua on State Highway 33. From the door you can walk to the river and the Okere Falls track, to Rotorua Rafting and the zipline, and over the bridge to the Okere Falls Store, a one-of-a-kind spot with a craft beer lineup that has to be seen to be believed, plus food, coffee and live music.
The Kaituna runs Grade 5 if you want it to, with the world's highest commercially rafted waterfall at Tutea Falls. Lake Rotoiti is considerably calmer - kayaking, fishing, boating and the hot pools you can only reach by water. Drive into Rotorua and the Redwoods Forest, Te Puia and Polynesian Spa are all around twenty five minutes, with Zorb, Canopy Tours, Waiariki Spa and the Skyline Gondola and Luge on the far side of town at about thirty. The Bay of Plenty beaches at Maketu and Papamoa are under an hour.
This is a real neighbourhood, so you will have neighbours, the sounds that come with them, and the occasional dog or rooster making themselves known. Guests who love that are the ones who tend to love it here.
Getting Around:
You will want a car. There is free off-street parking on the property, right beside the stairs. Rotorua Airport is 15 minutes down State Highway 33 and Rotorua city is 25 minutes. From the door it is 23 minutes to the Redwoods Forest, 25 to Te Puia, 26 to Polynesian Spa, Zorb and Canopy Tours, and 28 to the Skyline Gondola and Luge. Tauranga and the Bay of Plenty beaches are around 45 minutes the other way. The Okere Falls Store, the river, the rafting base and the zipline are all walkable, so plenty of guests find the car stays parked for most of the stay.
Other Things to Note:
Access is down a set of stairs from the driveway, along the boardwalk and then up a second short set of stairs, so the property is not suitable for anyone unable to navigate stairs. It is also not suitable for children.
The sauna is electric and simple to run - instructions are inside. The property is on tank rainwater and mains sewerage, with gas hot water and an electric oven and hobs.
The boardwalk is lit at night, with switches at both ends.
